Brett Hays
Brett Hays is a distinguished film and television producer and an active member of the Directors Guild of America (DGA), serving as both Unit Production Manager and 2nd Unit Director. Known for expertly balancing the creative vision and business demands of every project, Brett collaborates closely with producers, filmmakers, and studios to ensure productions are both creatively fulfilling and operationally efficient.
Throughout his career, Brett has cultivated producing partnerships with leading studios such as Disney (Hulu’s “Deli Boys”, Disney Channel’s TV Series “Saturdays”, Freeform's "The Thing About Harry" and Disney Channel's "Christmas Again"), Netflix (“Mea Culpa” and “Beauty in Black” written/directed by Tyler Perry, “The Killer” directed by David Fincher, "Thunder Force", and “The Last Laugh”), Viacom/CBS ("4400"), A24 ("Slice"), IFC Films ("An Acceptable Loss" starring Jamie Lee Curtis), Shudder (“Brooklyn 45” and “Revealer”), MarVista Entertainment ("Holiday Heist", "Friend Request", “Christmas is Canceled” & "Happily Never After") as well as with Dark Sky Films ("Girl on the Third Floor" and "Broadcast Signal Intrusion")
Brett is the founder of Shatterglass Studios, whose excellence was recognized with the Small Business of the Year award from the Champaign County Chamber of Commerce (2012) and a regional Emmy from the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences for their documentary on the Roger Ebert Film Festival (2013).
In 2023, he co-founded FLYOVER FILM STUDIOS, a state-of-the-art, six-acre soundstage facility in Central Illinois. Flyover provides filmmakers with comprehensive resources, from expansive production offices to modern stages, and serves as a hub for film, television, commercial, and live production in the Midwest. A space for filmmakers, built by filmmakers, designed to make filming as frictionless as possible. Flyover has local production partners, gear connections, and more. The company has 40,000 USF of production offices and 100,000 USF of spaces and sets. By creating a hub for film, television, commercial and live production, FLYOVER FILM STUDIOS seeks to provide unparalleled resources, support, and opportunities in the heart of the Midwest. The studios recently hosted the film “Chili Finger” starring Judy Greer, Sean Astin, Bryan Cranston and John Goodman.
Deeply committed to workforce development and industry advancement, Brett has led tuition-free Workforce Training Classes and hands-on production workshops in East Central Illinois, supported by the Illinois Film Office. These initiatives prepare aspiring crew members for successful careers in the Illinois film and television industry.
As a co-founder of the CU Film Society and its innovative Pens to Lens K-12 screenwriting competition and film festival, Brett has empowered students to engage in filmmaking, resulting in the production of hundreds of short films and the submission of thousands of scripts over numerous years.
A versatile industry leader, Brett brings expertise in film development, pre-production planning, on-set management, contract negotiation, union regulations, budgeting, and both domestic and international tax incentives.
